Deceased Person Identified as Previously Reported Missing Person

On April 16, 2025, the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety received a report regarding a missing person, 38-year-old male Rohnert Park resident Wen Hui Wu. Wu was reported missing by his significant other after not returning home for approximately two days.
On April 17, 2025, RPDPS was notified by the National Park Service that Wu’s vehicle was located in the Marin Headlands. Marin County Search & Rescue, the National Park Service, Southern Marin Water Rescue Team, and the United States Coast Guard began searching for Wu. However, he was not located. Investigation into Wu’s disappearance continued.
On May 21, 2025, RPDPS was notified by the United States Park Police that on May 16, 2025, a deceased person was located on the shoreline of Ocean Beach (San Francisco, CA). Preliminary investigation conducted by United States Park Police indicated that the death did not occur on Ocean Beach, and that the deceased person was washed onto the shore after being in the water for an extended period of time.
The deceased person’s body was significantly decomposed at the time of recovery. The San Francisco Medical Examiner took custody of the decedent in an attempt to identify the deceased person and to determine a cause of death.
On September 18, 2025, the California Department of Justice confirmed that the deceased person located on the shoreline of Ocean Beach in May of 2025 was in fact Wen Hui Wu. The identity of Wu was discovered utilizing DNA analysis.
Wu’s Next-of-kin was notified of his death. Our condolences are extended to the family of Mr. Wu and to those afftected by these unfortunate circumstances.
