City of Hoboken announces expanded fall art programs for children and teens 

Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla and the Hoboken Division of Cultural Affairs today announced registration for expanded art programs for youth and teens this fall will begin Wednesday, Sept. 24.
  
The expanded programming builds upon the City’s popular art classes that are designed to nurture creativity and artistic expression. New offerings this fall include music and art classes for special needs students.  

Art programs to be offered Fall of 2025, include:  

  • Art in the Park for ages 1-4. This seven-week indoor/outdoor program includes art, crafts, story time, music, and more.  
  • Sensory & Music for Special Needs for ages 3-5. This five-week class engages the body and brain simultaneously, using movement-based activities to support motor planning, balance, and coordination, and music to enhance auditory processing, emotional regulation, and communication. 
  • My Mini Museum for ages 5-7. This seven-week program is an art exploration club using artists as inspiration to create their own artwork.   
  • Creative Writing for ages 8-13. This eight-week program encourages participants to find their creative voice and embark on their writing journey. 
  • Artist-Inspired/Kid-Created for ages 8-13. This eight-week program introduces students to different artists to help them find inspiration to create their own work. 
  • Fashion and Upcycling for ages 10-16. Participants will learn how to create their own designs using upcycled clothing. Classes for special needs children are also available.  
  • Creative Movement for ages 6-13. Dancers will explore different dance styles while developing rhythm, coordination, and individual expression.  
  • Creative Movement for Special Needs for ages 8-22. Dancers will explore different dance styles while developing rhythm, coordination, and social connection.  
  • Sound Bath Social for Special Needs Young Adults for ages 13-22. This six-week program uses harmonic tones, vibrations, and rhythmic sound patterns to help regulate the nervous system, reduce anxiety, and improve focus in teens and young adults. Class is designed to encourage social interaction and connection. 
  • Theater Games for ages 5-13. The program will offer an introduction to improvisation and theater games to build confidence, communication, teamwork, and play.  
  • Sewing and Design for ages 6-13. The class will offer an introduction to the basics of hand and machine sewing and design.  
  • One-on-One Music Lessons for Special Needs for ages 8-22. One-on-one music lessons at The Drum Den. 
  • Art Lessons for Special Needs for ages 16-22. This six-week program at Urban Arts offers group art classes to young adults with special needs.
Programs are available to children aged 1 to 16, and to young adults with special needs up to 22, Classes will run from Oct. 6 through Dec. 12 at several locations, including: 
  • Multi-Service Center Senior Room, 124 Grand St. 
  • ResilienCity Park Community Room, 13th and Adams Streets 
  • Compass Learning Advantage, 101 Park Ave. 
  • Hoboken Dance Academy, 1421 Grand St. 
  • The Drum Den, 333 Newark St. 
“Art is a powerful tool for expression, learning, and connection and every child in Hoboken deserves access to those opportunities,” said Mayor Bhalla.  “I’m proud that our Division of Cultural Affairs is expanding its programming to include new, inclusive classes for all children and teens. These programs not only nurture creativity, but also help build confidence, community, and lifelong skills.” 

Registration for the programs will open on Wednesday, Sept. 24, at 6 p.m. on RecDesk. Class sizes are limited, and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note, programs that do not have the minimum number of participants will be cancelled. Families that qualify for free and reduced lunch are eligible to register for the classes free of charge. All program fees are available on RecDesk.
