Sheriff’s Office continues search for man wanted in Burton murder Investigation

Just after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received reports of shots fired at Independence Mobile Home Park, located at 60 Shanklin Road in Burton.
Upon arrival, deputies located a man deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. The Beaufort County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as Ty Haskell Jenkins IV, 20, of St. Helena Island.
Through the course of the investigation, Tyre Joe Atkins, 21, of St. Helena Island, was identified as the individual responsible for the shooting death. Investigators have obtained a warrant for Atkins’ arrest on the charge of murder.
Atkins is described as 5’10” tall, weighing 170 lbs., and is considered armed and dangerous.
