#LASD East Los Angeles Pursuit Suspect Detained
On Friday, August 29, 2025, at approximately 6:40 P.M., deputies from East Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon call at a convenience store located on the 5100 block of East Olympic Boulevard. The incident involved a gray Chrysler sedan that had reportedly struck a pedestrian.
Upon arrival, deputies determined that a female victim (later identified as the mother) had parked her vehicle outside the store, leaving the engine running with her three children, ages 8, 6, and 2, inside. The children’s father was parked adjacent to the mother’s vehicle as the mother entered the store.
A male Asian adult suspect entered the Chrysler, which was occupied by the three minor children, and began to drive away. The father attempted to intervene and was dragged by the stolen vehicle a short distance before falling to the ground, sustaining injuries to his upper body. The suspect drove westbound on Olympic Boulevard with the children in the vehicle he had just stolen.
East Los Angeles Station deputies began to canvass the area and located the suspect and the vehicle. They attempted to stop the suspect, who fled. Deputies initiated a pursuit along several roadways and interstate-10. With the assistance of the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the pursuit ended at the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Kanan Dume Road in the city of Malibu after a traffic collision involving four other vehicles.
The suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, up a steep embankment and into a residential area, where he was apprehended by CHP officers. The suspect sustained injuries, possibly from the collision or during his attempt to avoid apprehension climbing through the mountainous residential area. The suspect was subsequently transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect remains in the hospital and his identity will be confirmed once the booking process is complete.
The three children kidnapped in the vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a hospital for observation.
One additional injury was reported at the end of the pursuit during the traffic collision. A female adult was transported to a local hospital.
Formal charges are pending as the booking process is completed.
