Meridian Police Arrest Suspect Following Battery on Officer
 

Meridian, ID – On Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at approximately 8:44 p.m., Meridian Police officers had responded to a report of a man armed with a wooden 2x4 who had struck and damaged a citizen’s vehicle, causing more than $1,300 in damage. The suspect, identified as Gary PAULSEN, 30 years of age of Nampa, was located in the area.

When officers attempted to detain PAULSEN, he resisted arrest, struck one officer in the face, and continued fighting until additional officers arrived on scene. Officers were able to safely take PAULSEN into custody.

PAULSEN was evaluated by Ada County Paramedics and transported to St. Luke’s Meridian. After refusing medical treatment, he was medically cleared by hospital staff and booked into the Ada County Jail on multiple charges including battery on a law enforcement officer (felony), resisting and obstructing officer (misdemeanor), and malicious injury to property (felony).

The victim’s vehicle sustained approximately $1,300 in damage. One officer suffered injuries to the face and arm as a result of the battery.

This incident is a reminder of the dangers our officers face when responding to calls for service. We are grateful for the quick response of our officers and first responders who helped bring this situation under control. Additionally, we would like to recognize and thank the citizen who stepped in to assist our officer prior to additional help arriving.
