Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide investigators are continuing their investigation into the shooting death of a male adult in an area of Unincorporated Los Angeles. The incident occurred on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at approximately 9:20 p.m.
Deputies from Century Sheriff’s Station responded to the 8000 block of South Hooper Avenue in the city of Los Angeles regarding a report of a gunshot victim. Upon arrival, deputies located two male victims in an alley to the west of the reported location. The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded and pronounced one of the victims deceased on scene. The second victim was transported to a local hospital suffering from gunshot wounds to his leg.
Investigators learned the victims were alerted to the sounding of a car alarm to their vehicle that was parked in the alley. They observed three suspects attempting to steal their vehicle. When they confronted the suspects, a fourth suspect, standing near the south entrance of the alley, produced a firearm and opened fire on the victims. One of the victims, armed with a firearm, returned fire in what appears to be self-defense. The suspects fled the scene in a newer model, red or burgundy, four-door, coupe westbound on 81st Street. The deceased victim, a male Hispanic, 41-years-old, was struck in the upper torso and tragically died on scene. The second victim, a male Hispanic adult, was struck in the leg and transported to a local hospital.

The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
