On 08-12-2025 at 2:03 p.m. the Janesville Police Department was contacted by the Clay County, North Carolina, Sheriff’s Office, regarding a missing and/or endangered juvenile female.  During Clay County Sheriff’s Office investigation, they established that Adam Gurney, a 29-year-old Janesville resident, traveled to Clay County, NC, met with the juvenile female and brought her back to Janesville.   Clay County entered an arrest warrant for Adam regarding this incident.
 
The Janesville Police Department set up covert surveillance on Adam’s residence and observed Adam and the juvenile female entering a vehicle that was parked in the driveway.  Officers were able to make contact and take Adam into custody without incident.  Officers also made contact with the female and made arrangements for her to be picked up by a parent.
 
After further investigation, which included a search warrant served at Adam’s residence, Adam was arrested and held at the Rock County Jail on his charges.  The juvenile female was released to her father.
 
The Janesville Police Department received assistance from the Sexual Assault Recovery Program (SARP) and the Rock County Human Trafficking Task Force (RCAHTTF) in providing advocacy services to the juvenile female.
