Please Plan Ahead - Weekend Roadway and Freeway Closures
To help minimize local congestion in Fremont, during this weekend’s planned 55-hour closure of I680 (northbound), Caltrans has notified the City of several additional northbound I680 ramp closures, on-ramp restrictions, and left-turn limitations in the Mission San Jose, Irvington and Warm Springs area. These changes are being implemented to help guide drivers toward I880 and other regional detour options, thus reducing pressure on local roads in an effort to improve overall traffic movement. Please see the details below to plan your travel.

ALAMEDA COUNTY – Caltrans has scheduled work on northbound Interstate 680 (I-680) at the Mission San Jose (SR-238) Separation/Overpass in Fremont the weekend of August 8, 2025. On Friday, August 8, lane reductions are scheduled to begin at 8:00 PM with the full closure and work scheduled to begin at 10:00 PM and be completed by Monday, August 11 at 5:00 AM. This closure is necessary to perform critical bridge and pavement repairs.
During these weekend closures, only one direction of travel on I-680 will be closed at a time with detours set in place. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and use alternative routes.

From South Bay to Fremont:
Drivers traveling from the South Bay to Fremont should plan to utilize an exit off of I880 or exit in Milpitas to take local streets. It is recommended that drivers traveling to the East Bay (Pleasanton, Dublin, Livermore) and beyond, take I880 north and exit eastbound I238 to utilize I580. The City expects heavy traffic and delays along Mission Blvd as drivers funnel from all directions to utilize Niles Canyon (SR84) throughout the weekend.
The weekend closures are expected to cause local congestion and may create inconvenience for Fremont residents. Drivers are advised to allow extra travel time, plan alternative routes, and remain patient during this period. We appreciate everyone's understanding and cooperation as CalTrans works to complete these necessary improvements.
