Tsunami Advisory – Secure Your Boat Now

A Tsunami Advisory has been issued for the coastline of California, including Berkeley.

The tsunami surge is expected to arrive in San Francisco Bay tonight at 12:40 am. The surge is expected to be less than 1 ft tall.

Be aware that this event could create strong wave action and strong currents in the Berkeley Marina.

We recommend that you ensure your boat is tightly secured.

The State of California has monitored this specific tsunami and has assigned Berkeley a “Phase 1,” meaning that the State does not recommend evacuation of boats and docks for this event.

Should you prefer to stay off your boat, the DoubleTree Hotel is offering rooms to berthers at a discounted rate of $75.

City officials will continue to monitor the situation and will provide updates via AC Alert, Nixle, and on the Berkeley Emergency Map.
