Electric Motorcycle Driver Injured after Failing to Stop at a Red Light and Colliding with a Pickup Truck

DATE/TIME: June 30, 2025 / 2:02 p.m.

INCIDENT: Major Injury Traffic Collision

LOCATION: Haven Avenue / 19th Street, Rancho Cucamonga

INVOLVED PARTY: Confidential, 13-year-old juvenile from Rancho Cucamonga

INVOLVED PARTY: Brian Kennan, 52-year-old male from Grass Valley


SUMMARY: On June 30, 2025, at about 2:02 p.m., deputies from the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department responded to a traffic collision involving two vehicles on Haven Avenue, at the intersection of 19th Street. 

A Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Brian Kennan, traveled south on Haven Avenue. An unauthorized electric motorcycle ridden by a juvenile, traveled west on 19th Street. As Kennan approached the intersection, he saw the motorcycle rider traveling west. The rider failed to stop and entered the intersection. Kennan stopped his truck to avoid the motorcycle rider; however, the juvenile rider was unable to stop and collided into the truck. The collision ejected the juvenile rider over the truck into the street. The juvenile had several injuries and was transported to a local area hospital by ambulance. Witnesses indicated the juvenile failed to stop for the red light. 

Deputy Sanders from the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department’s Traffic Division is investigating the collision. Anyone who witnessed the collision and has not already been interviewed is urged to contact the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department.  

As a reminder, electric dirt bikes / motorcycles are manufactured for off-road use and not intended for use on public roadways. These motorcycles are classified as vehicles by the California Vehicle Code and must follow the same registration and operating procedures as automobiles. Riders must possess a valid license with M-1/M-2 motorcycle endorsement. Vehicles are subject to being towed if unregistered or operated without a valid license.
