Citations Issued to Teens Following Reckless E-Bike Collision:
On June 5, 2025, officers from the Petaluma Police Department responded to a reckless riding incident involving three teenagers operating two gas-powered dirt bikes and one high-speed electric bicycle in the area of Garfield Drive. The group was reportedly filming themselves engaging in dangerous riding behavior similar to violations under California Vehicle Code §23103 (reckless driving).
At approximately 3:00 PM, while attempting a wheelie, the e-bike—which had two riders, lost control and collided with a parked truck. Both riders were transported to Petaluma Valley Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers cited the three individuals for operating motorized vehicles without a license (12500 VC) and failing to provide proof of insurance (16028 VC).
A Message on Bike and E-Bike Safety
The Petaluma Police Department reminds the public—especially youth and their families—that operating motorized dirt bikes and high-powered e-bikes on city streets comes with legal responsibilities and real risks. Yesterday’s incident could have resulted in more serious injuries or even fatalities. Reckless riding endangers not only the riders themselves but also pedestrians, drivers, and community members.
Public Safety Announcement: Know the Rules
