UPD #LASD Homicide Investigators responded to assist Baldwin Park PD w/ an Officer Involved Shooting Inv., 4200 Filhurst Ave.,Baldwin Park

On May 31, 2025, the person believed to have shot and murdered a male adult on Filhurst Avenue then shot and murder a Baldwin Park Police offer was detained.
 
Through the on-going investigation the person was identified as Eduardo Roberto Medina-Berumen a male Hispanic 22 years-old.  Suspect Medina-Berumen was booked on suspicion of two counts of Murder. He is currently in stable condition at a local hospital pending transfer to a jail facility.  This case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for their consideration of filing charges against him. Suspect Medina-Berumen is being held with a bail of $4,000,000.00 currently.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau investigators responded to the 4200 block of Filhurst Avenue in the city of Baldwin Park to assist the Baldwin Park Police Department with an officer-involved shooting investigation. The incident occurred on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at approximately 7:12 p.m., Baldwin Park Police Department officers responded to a report of a man armed with a firearm. There was also a report of a person lying on the sidewalk, unresponsive.

As officers arrived on scene, they were immediately fired upon by the suspect and an officer-involved shooting occurred. Two Baldwin Park Police Department officers were injured by the gunfire.  Both injured officers were transported to a local hospital, where Officer Samuel Riveros tragically succumbed to his injury.  The second officer, Officer Anthony Pimentel, was listed in stable condition and is expected to survive.

The suspect, a male adult, was struck by gunfire at the location.  He was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition.

Officers located a civilian adult male adult suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was also transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. His identity is being withheld pending a next of kin notification.

The suspect’s rifle was recovered at the scene.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau assumed investigative responsibility and is working closely with the Baldwin Park Police Department. The investigation remains in its early stages, and there is no additional information available at this time.

This is a heartbreaking and deeply devastating tragedy. Officer Riveros made the ultimate sacrifice in service to his community. He, along with Officer Pimentel and their fellow officers, bravely responded to a dangerous call, fully aware of the risks involved. Officer Riveros gave his life in service to others, a profound testament to his unwavering dedication to duty and selfless courage.

His loss is profoundly felt—not only by his family and colleagues, but by the entire Baldwin Park community and law enforcement family.

The death of an innocent civilian only deepens this tragedy. Our hearts and prayers go out to the victim’s loved ones as they endure unimaginable grief.

This incident is a sobering reminder of the grave and unpredictable dangers law enforcement officers confront every day. Despite these risks, they continue to put their lives on the line to protect our communities.

NARRATIVE: 
 
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide Investigators are assisting Baldwin Park Police Department with the investigation in the circumstances surrounding an officer-involved shooting. The incident occurred on the 4200 block of Filhurst Avenue in the city of Baldwin Park, on May 31, 2025, at approximately 7:12 p.m.
 
Baldwin Park Police Department Officers responded to a call of a male adult with a rifle. A male adult victim with a fatal gunshot wound was located at the location.
 
Officers contacted the suspect, were met with gunfire, and an officer-involved shooting occurred. Two Baldwin Park Police Officers were injured by the gunfire. They were transported to a local hospital, where one officer was pronounced deceased and the second officer was injured, but in stable condition.
 
The suspect was also struck by gunfire at the location. He was transported to a local hospital and in stable condition.  
 
The suspect’s weapon was recovered at the scene.
 
This is an ongoing investigation, and there is no additional information available at this time.
