Vehicle Pursuit Results in Arrest of Two Suspects
HOLLISTER, CALIFORNIA – May 29, 2025 - The Hollister Police Department’s FLOCK system reported a wanted vehicle had entered the City of Hollister. Officers located the vehicle and attempted to stop it. The driver refused to stop and after a short pursuit, the vehicle and the occupants were arrested and charged with multiple crimes. Police recovered nearly 100 pieces of stolen mail and personal documents from addresses around Santa Clara County
On Wednesday, May 28th, 2025, at about 3:00 PM, officers began to receive Flock Safety system alerts indicating that a wanted felony vehicle had entered the City of Hollister’s jurisdiction at the west end of Hollister. The Flock system is a series of cameras strategically positioned around the city that document license plates and alert police to reported stolen cars or other wanted vehicles in the city.
The suspect vehicle, a Dodge Durango SUV, was being driven around causing continuous activations of the department’s Flock Safety alert system. Officer McKinney was on patrol and responded to the area to find it.
Upon arriving in the area, Officer McKinney located the blue Dodge Durango and initiated a traffic enforcement stop. The driver of the Dodge immediately began to evade Officer McKinney through the streets of Westside Boulevard and Central Avenue. The suspect driver neglected to stop at a posted stop sign at Locust Avenue and Fourth Street and crashed into two vehicles. The driver and passenger of the Dodge fled from the vehicle.
Officer McKinney chased the driver on foot and quickly took him into custody. He was later identified as Jose Cervantes (30) of San Jose. Officers Anderson, Officer Gorman, and Officer Ramos arrived at the scene and began to assist in the care of the other parties involved from the collision. Officer Ramos received information by a community member that the female passenger may be hiding in the backyard of a home on Fourth Street. Officer Ramos later located and arrested the female, Mayra Aguirre (30), of Gilroy.
As officers continued their investigation into this matter, it was discovered the vehicle was allegedly involved in another vehicle pursuit with the Gilroy Police Department earlier in the week. While officers were processing the car, they found nearly 100 pieces of personal documents, credit cards, social security cards, checks, and other mail in the vehicle from addresses around Santa Clara County. The evidence was indicative of mail and identity theft ring. Additionally, narcotics were found in the vehicle and Cervantes was also a parolee released to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s (CDCR) Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) program from Santa Clara County.
The occupants of the other involved vehicles were provided medical treatment by Hollister Fire EMTs and AMR paramedics. They reported minor injuries and were treated and released.
Cervantes and Aguirre were transported to Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital for medical evaluation. Cervantes and Aguirre were booked into the San Benito County Jail for a combined total of four felony charges and five misdemeanor charges, ranging from evading a police officer with wanton disregard, hit and run collision, drug charges, DUI and possession of stolen property.
