Detectives assigned to the Gun Violence Reduction Program identified and arrested Michael Paz for furnishing a firearm to a juvenile who then used the firearm to commit suicide in the unincorporated area of Thousand Oaks. During January 2025, Thousand Oaks Patrol deputies responded to the unincorporated area of Thousand Oaks for a report of a suicidal subject. Deputies located a juvenile male suffering from a single gunshot wound. The subject was transported to Los Robles Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased. Due to the nature of the call, Sheriff’s Major Crimes detectives and detectives from the Gun Violence Reduction Program launched an investigation. Through various investigative techniques, detectives obtained evidence identifying Michael Paz as the suspect who sold the firearm to the juvenile. On May 23, 2025, detectives located Paz in the city of Thousand Oaks and arrested him without incident. The investigation was subsequently submitted to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office. On May 27, 2025, the Ventura County District Attorney filed one count of PC 27575(a) – Unlawful Transfer of a Firearm, PC 273a(a) – Child Endangerment, and PC 27505(a) – Sell, Loan, Transfer a Firearm to a Minor.
