On April 9, 2025, deputies from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting incident that occurred in the unincorporated area of Ventura County near the intersection of Hueneme Road and Raytheon Road. The investigation revealed evidence that a suspect discharged a firearm at an occupied vehicle. The incident occurred in the early morning hours and appeared to be a result of road rage while the suspect and victim were in heavy traffic.
 
Detectives from the Camarillo Investigations Bureau investigated the case. Using various investigative means, the suspect was identified as (A) Jose Luciano Valdez, a resident of Oxnard.  On May 9, 2025, detectives located and arrested Luciano Valdez in the city of Oxnard. Detectives served a search warrant on Luciano Valdez’ vehicle and residence. During the search, detectives recovered two firearms and over 100 rounds of ammunition. Both firearms were illegally possessed.
 
Luciano Valdez was booked into custody at the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility and his bail was set at $80,000. Luciano Valdez is currently in custody awaiting court proceedings for the below listed charges. 
 
PC 245(a)(2) - Assault with a Deadly Weapon
PC 245(b) – Assault with a Semiautomatic Firearm
PC 246 - Discharging a Firearm at an Occupied Vehicle
PC 25400(a)(1) - Carrying a Concealed Firearm in Public
PC 25850(c)(6) - Possession of Loaded Gun not the Registered Owner
PC 27545 - Unlawful Transfer of Firearm.
