Press Release: Vehicle and Pedestrian Collision
SUBJECT: Vehicle and Pedestrian Collision
LOCATION: 2700 Block of El Camino Real, Redwood City
DATE/TIME: May 5, 2025, 12:10 PM
On Monday May 5, 2025, at approximately 12:10 PM, Redwood City Police Officers were dispatched to the scene of a traffic accident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. The pedestrian was determined to be a 17-year-old minor. The Redwood City Fire Department and AMR medics responded to the scene. The pedestrian was immediately transported to a local hospital. The pedestrian received significant injuries and remains in critical condition.
The driver, a 64-year-old Menlo Park resident, was located at the scene and was also transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
Several witnesses were contacted at the scene and video evidence was collected. Our initial assessment is that the driver ran a red light on El Camino Real and struck the pedestrian who was lawfully in the crosswalk. There were no obvious signs of impairment due to drugs or alcohol. Medical personnel on scene opined it appeared the driver suffered a debilitating medical event immediately preceding the collision. Blood samples were collected in this case and will be processed for evaluation.
Recently a video was released on social media that displays a portion of this incident. This incident is still under investigation, and we encourage anyone with information to contact Officer Hart at 650-780-7100.
