Deputies Respond to Shots Fired and Later Arrest Man who Barricaded Himself Inside Residence for Over Two Hours

INCIDENT: Felon in Possession of a Firearm / Shooting at an Inhabitated Dwelling
LOCATION: 22000 block of Newport Ave, Grand Terrace, CA, 92313
SUSPECT(S): Hector Leyva, 36-years-old, resident of Riverside County
VICTIM(S): State of California
SUMMARY: On Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at about 5:00 pm, deputies from the Central Station responded to the 22000 block of Newport Avenue, Grand Terrace, reference shots fired at a residence. Deputies surrounded the residence and attempted to contact Leyva, but he barricaded himself inside.
While deputies were at the scene, several shots were heard coming from inside the residence. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Specialized Enforcement Division (SED) were contacted to assist with the investigation.
After approximately two and a half hours, Leyva surrendered, was apprehended and no one was injured during the incident. A search warrant was served at the residence. One handgun, a rifle, approximately 10lbs of explosive material, fireworks and several hundred rounds of ammunition were recovered.
Leyva is on Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) and was arrested and booked at Central Detention Center for being a felon in possession of a firearm, and shooting at an inhabitaed dwelling in lieu of $50,000 bail.
