Man arrested for Threatening a Salesperson with a Firearm
On April 21, 2025, at approximately 6:21 pm, Petaluma Police Department officers responded to the 900 block of Daniel Drive to investigate a report of a man brandishing a firearm towards a door-to-door salesperson. The initial reporting party told the communications center that a homeowner was in possession of a firearm and was actively chasing the salesperson.
On arrival, officers contacted the salesperson, and the homeowner involved, who was identified as Michael Greenwood (67). During the investigation, officers determined Greenwood had retrieved a handgun from his home, exited the residence, brandishing the weapon and yelling threats towards the victim. Greenwood was ultimately placed under arrest and refused to provide consent to officers to obtain the firearm. A twenty-one-day Gun Violence Restraining Order (GVRO) was sought and approved, and Greenwood surrendered the firearm.
Greenwood was booked at the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility for violations of Penal Code 422 (criminal threats) and 417 PC (brandishing a firearm).
A Gun Violence Restraining Order (GVRO) is a valuable tool that helps prevent potential tragedies by allowing law enforcement or family members to temporarily remove firearms from individuals who pose a significant risk to themselves or others, enhancing public safety and providing an opportunity for early intervention.
