Street confrontation leads to assault with a deadly weapon and hate crime arrest. 
On April 22, 2025 at 11:29 AM, Simi Valley Police Officers were dispatched to the area of Cochran Street and Stearns Street in reference to the possible brandishing of a firearm that had just occurred. Upon arrival the victims advised Officers that they were walking in the area and had attempted to get the attention of a passing driver because he was travelling at a high rate of speed. When the vehicle pulled up to the victims, the driver produced a semi-automatic handgun and pointed it at the victims, while also calling them a homophobic slur.
The victims provided a description of the suspect vehicle and driver which Officers eventually located parked and occupied in the 5300 block of Cochran Street. An in-field identification was conducted and the suspect, Andrew Chase, a 24 year old resident of Simi Valley, was positively identified by the victims and placed under arrest. A search of the suspect vehicle revealed a loaded handgun, which was registered to Chase. Chase was booked at Ventura County Jail for Assault with a deadly Weapon, Firearm and a Hate Crime.
