On April 3, 2025, detectives assigned to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Special Victims Bureau (SVB) responded to the East Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station area to investigate a report of sexual abuse to a juvenile that occurred on Saturday, March 22, 2025. The case involved a female juvenile victim and 41-year-old Jaime Arriaga-Pedroza, who is a Catholic priest assigned to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Downey and Saint Louis of France Catholic Church in La Puente.
Arriaga-Pedroza was arrested by SVB detectives, and he remains in custody with no bail.
The case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office who filed 8 felony counts of sexual abuse. Arriaga-Pedroza was arraigned at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center on Monday, April 7, 2025.
Based on the nature of the offenses, detectives believe there might be additional victims.
