MAYOR DALEY AND SUPERINTENDENT WEIS ANNOUNCE OPENING OF NEW CHICAGO POLICE DEPARTMENT SATELLITE OFFICE IN 008.

Mayor Richard M. Daley and Chicago Police Superintendent Jody Weis joined elected officials, Chicago Public Library representatives and local residents for the opening of the 8th District Chicago Police Department Satellite facility that will be housed inside the Chicago Public Library’s Clearing Branch located at 6423 West 63rd Place.

The new facility will serve as an added resource for residents who utilize the main Chicago Police Department’s 8th District facility at 63rd and Homan Avenues.

“In Chicago, our police stations, fire houses, schools and libraries are designed to serve as anchors in our communities. Today we are announcing a plan that brings two of these community anchors together to improve the quality of life for residents in this community,” said Mayor Daley.

“Our community anchors are designed as safe havens where all residents come to learn, share ideas and help increase the quality of life for their families, their neighborhoods and the city,” added the Mayor.

The new satellite office will provide a location where residents can:
• File police reports
• Talk to an officer about community concerns
• Provide information about criminal activity
• Obtain information on CAPS programs and events
• Provide the district with information on city service requests
This new satellite office is a pilot facility that will be evaluated to see if this new model is one that is would be used in others areas of Chicago.

Due to the size of the district, Chicago Police Department officials in the 8th District needed more space to accommodate the concerns of residents.

Library and police staff met and coordinated efforts to open a Chicago Police Department Satellite office at the Chicago Public Library’s Clearing Branch.

The new satellite office will provide the community with an alternate location to interact with the police department.

“We are pleased to establish this satellite office because it helps strengthen the partnership between the community and the Chicago Police Department. The new office will make the 8th District more efficient and provide a more positive experience for our residents. We are exited about the new office, and look forward to better serving the residents of the 8th Police District,” said Chicago Police Superintendent Jody Weis.

The satellite office will be staffed Monday through Saturday during regular library hours.
