SUMMARY: On Saturday, March 8, 2025, at approximately 6:49 p.m., deputies from the Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station and rescue personnel from the Apple Valley Fire Department responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian traffic crash, on Bear Valley Road and Savage Lane, in the town of Apple Valley.

Through investigation, deputies determined a red Mazda 6, driven by a 20-year-old resident of Apple Valley, drove eastbound on Bear Valley Road in the number two lane, approaching Savage Lane. The pedestrian was running southbound on Bear Valley Road, in the roadway, across all lanes of travel when the Kia struck the pedestrian from the front. The pedestrian also was reported to have been caught shoplifting from Tractor Supply just prior to the crash and fled the location on foot after the stolen property was recovered by the store.

The pedestrian suffered major injuries and was transported to a local hospital by ambulance. She was later flown to a nearby trauma center for advanced care. The pedestrian later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The driver of the Mazda was uninjured and remained on scene to cooperate with the investigation.

An investigator from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T) responded and is conducting an investigation. Bear Valley Road eastbound lanes were closed between the intersections of Deep Creek Road and Itoya Vista Road for approximately three hours while deputies processed the scene for evidence and interviewed witnesses.
