On February 4, 2025, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Kern County Sheriff’s Office deputies located a stolen vehicle and initiated a stop in the area of Edison Highway and Sterling Road. The suspects fled a pursuit initiated. At the termination of the pursuit, in the area of Brundage Lane and Fairfax Road, an officer involved shooting occurred. There we no injuries. Stephen Romo, age 27, and Raul Candido, age 24, were arrested.
Candido was arrested on charges of reckless evading a peace officer, possession of a controlled substance, driving under the influence of narcotics, possession of a stolen vehicle, vehicle theft, conspiracy to commit a crime and possession of burglary tools.
Romo was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance with 2 or more priors, conspiracy to commit a crime, resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia.
No further information will be released at this time. A video presentation to include body worn camera and other relevant information will be released at the conclusion of the investigation.
