**VIDEO**"Unwavering Commitment: Deputies Rescue Seniors from the Eaton Fire"

On the morning of January 8th, 2025, an urgent evacuation was ordered as wildfires advanced toward a senior living apartment complex in Altadena. Deputies Nicholas Martinez and Quinn Alkonis, assigned to the Carson Station, were part of the extensive deployment responding to the wildfire emergency. Tasked with evacuating any remaining residents and with flames advancing rapidly, they recognized that every second mattered.

When deputies Martinez and Alkonis began searching the complex for residents needing assistance, Deputy Alkonis first encountered an older woman returning from walking her dog, seemingly unaware of the immediate danger. With compassion and urgency, Alkonis informed her of the wildfire. The woman was unsure when asked if others remained inside, prompting the deputies to intensify their search.

Meanwhile, Deputy Martinez went door to door, ensuring no one was left behind. With the power out, they relied on their flashlights to navigate the dark hallways during their search. As the two deputies worked together, they heard a faint voice echoing from a distant hallway. Without hesitation, they rushed to investigate and discovered a 100-year-old woman, disoriented and struggling to find her way out. The woman explained that she hadn’t heard anything because her hearing aids were charging. The deputies immediately prioritized her safety, guiding her carefully out of the building and away from harm.

During this high-stakes mission, Deputies Martinez and Alkonis showed exceptional courage and quick thinking under immense pressure. They continuously checked the building's windows to track the fire's proximity, staying alert as the situation unfolded. Their training prepared them to work in unfamiliar areas and situations like the Eaton Fire. Alongside numerous LASD personnel, they worked tirelessly to evacuate residents and save as many lives as possible.

Even after they took the older women to safety, the deputies knew their work wasn't done. Every second mattered, and they continued their search, ensuring no resident was left behind. Through the darkness and urgency, their, instincts, and teamwork, never faltered in their mission.

Their actions were a testament to their dedication, proving their resolve to serve remains unshakable even in unfamiliar and dangerous situations.

“In the face of adversity, these deputies took immediate action," stated Sheriff Robert Luna. "Their swift response under extreme pressure is a true reflection of their commitment. I commend them and all deputies who responded to the wildfires for their unwavering dedication and service to the community, working tirelessly to save lives amid such danger. Their courage and selflessness exemplify the highest standards of law enforcement, and they deserve our deepest respect and gratitude."

While Deputies Martinez and Alkonis performed their duties with remarkable courage, they were not alone. During several fires during the past two weeks, first responders from fire, law enforcement, and emergency medical teams worked tirelessly to protect lives, property, and communities. Everyone played a critical role, from firefighters battling the fires head-on to law enforcement evacuating as many people as possible to dispatchers coordinating rescue efforts. Their collective efforts showcased the extraordinary strength of teamwork and dedication in the face of disaster.
