Due to the recent wildfires and resulting burn scars, the Cities of Altadena and Malibu are at high risk for mud and rockslides. Heavy rainfall, which is forecasted for the area, may exacerbate these conditions, leading to potentially life-threatening situations.
*IF YOU LIVE IN OR NEAR A BURN SCAR AREA, PLEASE BE AWARE OF THE FOLLOWING RISKS:*
- Mud and rockslides can occur with little to no warning
- Flash flooding can happen quickly, sweeping away people, vehicles, and structures
- Debris flows can carry large rocks, trees, and other material, causing catastrophic damage
*TAKE THE FOLLOWING PRECAUTIONS IMMEDIATELY:*
- Stay informed about weather forecasts and emergency alerts
- Have a family emergency plan in place, including a safe meeting point and evacuation route
- Keep a battery-powered radio, flashlight, and first aid kit on hand
- Stay away from burned areas and avoid traveling during heavy rainfall
- Follow evacuation orders from local authorities immediately
