Advisory

Hoboken under winter weather advisory; Discounted garage parking available; Rec programs cancelled after 4 p.m.

A National Weather Service (NWS) winter weather advisory remains in effect for Hoboken, from 1 p.m. today through 4 a.m. tomorrow. The City of Hoboken and Office of Emergency Management (OEM) are monitoring the forecast, which currently calls for accumulating snow of three to five inches, mixing with rain at times. Residents are encouraged to exercise caution when driving during the height of the storm.

Following the snow, temperatures are anticipated to drop significantly, with wind chill values possibly below 10 degrees in the overnight hours of Sunday into Monday.

Discounted garage parking available at noon today

Due to the storm, a special rate of $5 per 24-hour period is being offered at Garages B (28 2nd St.), Garages D (215 Hudson St.), and the Midtown Garage (371 4th St.) for residents with Resident On-Street Parking Permits or Temporary Parking Permits. Discounted parking begins Sunday, Jan. 19, at 12 p.m. and ends Monday, Jan. 20, at 12 p.m.

Please note, garages tend to fill quickly as space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Regular rates apply at all other times.

Keep sidewalks and curb ramps clear

The City’s Department of Parks, Recreation, & Public Works will salt roads and City and County plowing crews will conduct plowing and shoveling operations as needed.

Property owners and occupants are reminded that they have six (6) hours after the completion of a storm to remove snow and ice from sidewalks adjacent to their property, along with adjoining curb ramps or curb cuts.

Residents are urged to use caution when shoveling and assist elderly or disabled neighbors with clearing snow from their properties. It is illegal to shovel snow back onto streets or onto fire hydrants.

The City performs proactive inspections and relies on citizen complaints to help identify property owners that are not meeting sidewalk safety requirements. While most property owners comply with the safety regulations, the City will issue fines to those who do not keep sidewalks clear.

To report an un-shoveled sidewalk, please email [email protected]@hobokennj.gov

City recreation cancelled after 4 p.m. today, Street cleaning previously suspended Monday; Waste collection scheduled as normal

Be advised, all City recreation programs scheduled after 4 p.m. have been cancelled for today.

Street cleaning had previously been suspended for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, Jan. 20. Street cleaning is scheduled to resume Tuesday, Jan. 21. All other parking regulations remain in effect.

Waste collection and recycling will occur as scheduled.

Snow Emergency Route reminder

Residents are reminded that vehicles parked on snow emergency routes, when the streets are snow covered, may be subject to ticketing and towing. This is necessary to allow emergency vehicles to move throughout Hoboken for the safety and welfare of all residents. As always, cars parked illegally in, or too close to, crosswalks are subject to towing.

Emergency snow routes in Hoboken are labeled with street signs that read “No Parking When Road Is Snow Covered.” A map of emergency snow routes is available on the City website: www.hobokennj.gov/snow.

Snow emergency routes are not anticipated to be in effect, however conditions are subject to change throughout the day. If snow emergency routes do go into effect, the Office of Emergency Management will announce it via Nixle and on X at: @HobokenOEM.
