Press Release: Attempted Homicide Incident

SUBJECT:     Attempted Homicide Incident

INCIDENT LOCATION: Sequoia Station, Redwood City

DATE/TIME: January 15, 2025, Approximately 8:11 P.M.

On 1/15/25 at approximately 8:11 P.M. Redwood City Police Officers responded to the breezeway of Sequoia Station in Redwood City on the report by San Mateo County Sheriff’s Deputies who happened upon an assault in progress. Officers learned that while Deputies were conducting a routine check of the Caltrain platform they saw an active fight between two individuals in the breezeway (the breezeway is the area located directly in the middle of the retail stores that allows access to the Caltrain platform that runs behind the retail stores). Once these subjects noticed law enforcement they disengaged from each other. One of the subjects was found to be holding a knife in his hand and the other was found to have several stab wounds. The suspect was detained without incident and the victim was rushed to a local hospital for treatment. The victim is expected to survive his injuries.

The suspect was positively identified as 20 year old Cody Dwight Washington of Redwood City. Washington was ultimately booked into the San Mateo County Maguire Correctional Facility for attempted homicide and a parole violation. It is unclear what precipitated the altercation and the relationship between the suspect and victim.

We are actively investigating this incident and urge anyone who may have additional information to contact the Redwood City Police Department’s non-emergency number at (650)780-7100.
