                        17-Year-Old Male

VICTIM(S): BNSF Railway

SUMMARY: On Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at approximately 6:40 p.m., Morongo Basin Sheriff's Station was contacted by BNSF police, who advised a train in the area of Amboy and National Trails Highway was actively being burglarized by multiple suspects. This type of crime has been occurring frequently by organized criminal groups. BNSF police requested the Sheriff's Department's assistance.

While deputies were on their way, they observed an unmarked white van traveling west on Amboy Road near Zelda Lane in Wonder Valley. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle; however, the vehicle failed to yield, and a pursuit ensued. The vehicle became disabled on a dirt berm, two occupants fled, and a foot pursuit ensued. With the assistance of Sheriff's Aviation, deputies apprehended both, who were later determined to be teenagers.

Deputies observed an additional vehicle, believed to be related, traveling westbound on Amboy Road and broadcast its information via Sheriff's Dispatch. California Highway Patrol (CHP) observed the vehicle traveling northbound on S. Old Woman Springs Road near Butte St in Landers and conducted a stop. The driver fled on foot and is currently outstanding.

Through investigation, investigators recovered 218 cases of Nike brand products worth $408,000, a full recovery of the products taken from the train burglary. The San Bernardino Sheriff's Department is conducting this investigation jointly with BNSF Police.
