#UPDATE Arrest made related to Torrance Courthouse Incident #LASD
LASD Arson Explosives Detail Detectives with the assistance of Torrance Police Department Detectives investigated the chemical device incident at Torrance Courthouse on Wednesday, November 13, 2024.
Based on their investigation, detectives identified the suspect, a 56-year-old male resident of Redondo Beach. On Friday, November 15, 2024, investigators located the suspect in the 2200 block of Belmont Lane, Redondo Beach, and placed him under arrest for the use of a destructive device (violation of 18740 PC).
The suspect was booked at Torrance Police Department with the bail amount of $500,000.
Detectives conducted a search warrant at the suspect’s residence, and the collected evidence will be analyzed for this investigation.

At approximately 7:00 AM this morning, personnel at the Torrance Courthouse were alerted to a suspicious package located approximately 30 feet from the main entrance. The Torrance Police Department were immediately notified and evacuated the courthouse.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Arson Explosives Detail bomb technicians responded to the scene and deployed a robot to safely assess and render the package safe. The surrounding area was subsequently declared safe at approximately 10:15 a.m.
As a precautionary measure the Torrance Courthouse is closed and will reopen Thursday, November 14th. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Arson Explosives Detail is actively investigating the incident with the assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
