Inclement Weather Event #5

Inclement Weather Event #5 2024 The Office of Supportive Housing (OSH) is activating Inclement Weather Event #5 for the entire County. The National Weather Service has forecast cold overnight temperatures in the mid to upper 30s and precipitation on Friday through Monday with hazardous conditions for those unsheltered and the general population. Breezy conditions with cool to cold temperatures will further exacerbate poor conditions for unsheltered and partially sheltered people. OSH is requesting that services providers, partners, and advocates activate on Friday, March 1st, 8:00 AM - Monday, March 4, 8:00 AM. Outreach workers, community partners and volunteers are encouraged to share information about warming centers with vulnerable populations. For up-to-date listings, please visit: www.PrepareSCC.org/ColdWeather. Cold Weather Tips: • Avoid excessive consumption of alcohol, non-prescription medication, and other drugs if you will be staying outside as it may lead to death or serious injury • Unsheltered community members, older adults, children and those with access and functional needs should seek shelter now as they are at higher risks for hypothermia • Avoid being outside during the coldest part of the day, or for extended periods of time in extreme cold weather • Dress in layers, wear a hat, scarf, gloves and mittens, and waterproof, insulated boots to avoid hypothermia or frostbite. Symptoms of hypothermia include: • Confusion • Dizziness • Exhaustion • Severe shivering Seek medical attention immediately and call 9-1-1 if you see someone experiencing hypothermia or frostbite. For more information about shelter availability, please call the Here4You Call Center at 408-385-2400 ask for inclement weather temporary shelter.
