Yucca Valley Woman Dies in Custody; Autopsy Scheduled to Determine Cause

DECEDENT(S): Dianna Newton, 34-years-old, Resident of Yucca Valley
SUMMARY:
On Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at 1:09 a.m., deputies at the West Valley Detention Center discovered a female inmate, identified as Dianna Newton, unresponsive in her cell. Jail medical staff attempted lifesaving measures until the Rancho Cucamonga Fire Department arrived. Newton was transported by AMR to the hospital and was pronounced deceased at 2:32 a.m.
The Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division also responded and assumed the investigation.
Newton was arrested on October 28, 2023, in the Morongo Basin for arson. Upon her initial booking, it was discovered she suffered from multiple serious medical issues. She remained in custody and received medical treatment throughout her incarceration. An autopsy will be conducted to determine a cause of death.
