Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Investigators are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding a Huntington Park Police Department officer-involved shooting of a 51-year-old Hispanic male in the city of Hacienda Heights.
On Saturday, December 9, 2023, at approximately 2:58 pm, officers from the Huntington Park Police Department responded to a call of a road rage incident in the city of Huntington Park.
As officers responded to the call, the disturbing party, who was allegedly involved in the road rage incident, was located by officers adjacent to the Huntington Park police station. Officers attempted to stop the suspect vehicle and subsequently initiated a vehicle pursuit.
Officers believed the suspect was driving under the influence. The pursuit traveled through several surface streets and onto the freeway. The pursuit ultimately led officers onto surface streets in the city of Hacienda Heights, and it terminated on the 15400 block of Garo Street.
At the termination of the pursuit, the suspect utilized his vehicle to ram multiple Huntington Park police vehicles, which resulted in an officer-involved shooting.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital and treated for an apparent gunshot wound to his upper body. The suspect was listed in critical but stable condition.
A Huntington Park Police Department officer sustained a minor non-life-threatening injury during the incident.
There are no outstanding suspects.
Homicide investigators are in the early stages of the investigation. The investigation is ongoing, and currently there is no additional information.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Investigators are assisting Huntington Park Police Department with the investigation into the circumstances surrounding an officer-involved shooting. The incident occurred on December 9, 2023, at approximately 4:01 p.m.
The suspect was struck by gunfire and transported to a local hospital.
No deputies were injured during the incident.
There is no additional information available at this time.
Whenever a deputy-involved shooting occurs involving Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies, and no one is hit by the gunfire, multiple investigations immediately begin at the scene. These include separate investigations by the Sheriff's Internal Affairs Bureau as well as sheriff's station or Detective Division investigators. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department immediately notifies the Office of the Inspector General who sends a representative to the incident scene and provides independent oversight throughout the investigative process. Once concluded, every aspect of the shooting is reviewed by the Sheriff's Executive Force Review Committee.
