INCIDENT: Homicide Investigation
LOCATION: 7100 block of N. Barton Street, San Bernardino
SUSPECT(S): Michael Pasillas, 25-year-old San Bernardino Resident
VICTIM(S): Sergio Oscar Castaneda, 37-year-old Riverside Resident (Deceased)
Confidential, 23-year-old Female
SUMMARY: On Thursday, November 16, 2023, at approximately 7:32 p.m., deputies with the Central Station responded to an assault with a weapon call in the 7100 block of N. Barton Street. Upon arriving, deputies discovered Sergio Casteneda unresponsive, suffering from gunshot wounds. Castaneda was pronounced deceased at the scene. A female victim was also hit by gunfire and transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Detectives with the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division, Homicide Detail, responded and assumed the investigation. Through investigation, investigators determined the suspect to be 25-year-old Michael Pasillas. On November 20, 2023, with assistance from Sheriff’s Specialized Enforcement Division, Pasillas was located and taken into custody. Pasillas was arrested and booked at Central Detention Center for murder.
