***Final Update*** Heavy police presence in the area of Goodwill, 2003 Holiday Drive due to a suspicious device.

The evacuated area around Goodwill Industries is now open.
Bomb Technicians with the Dane County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad determined the suspicious explosive device to be a live Cluster Bomblet. The device was collected by the Dane County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad and will be destroyed.
The Janesville Police Department is attempting to identify the resident who included ammunition and the explosive device with their donation at Goodwill Industries. Residents are encouraged to call us at 608-757-2244 to have old military ordinances or any suspicious device disposed of responsibly.
The Janesville Police Department would like to thank the businesses and residents negatively impacted by this incident. The safe evacuation of the impacted businesses to ensure a safe resolution could not have been made possible without the cooperation and patience of those impacted.
We would also like to thank the Dane County Sheriff’s Office, Rock County Sheriff’s Office, Rock County Communication Center, Janesville Fire Department, and our patrol staff for ensuring this disruption was resolved swiftly and safely.

The Janesville Police Department appreciates the support and cooperation from the residents and businesses negatively impacted by this evacuation. We are working to safely and quickly resolve this situation.
At this time the initial investigation is showing employees at Goodwill discovered ammunition and what appears to be an explosive device while inventorying donated items. Technicians with the Dane County Bomb Squad are on-scene investigating further. There are no known threats to the community at this time.

Residents should avoid the area outlined in the attached map (Milton Ave to Lodge Drive, Lodge Drive into Woodman's South lot, Liberty Lane to Holiday Drive, and Holiday Drive to Milton Ave).
Janesville Police are actively investigating a suspicious device at Goodwill, 2003 Holiday Drive. Residents are encouraged to avoid the area.
