INCIDENT: Vehicle Burglary / Assault with a Firearm
LOCATION: 18600 block of Valley Boulevard, unincorporated Bloomington
INVOLVED PERSON 1: Alexander Marquez, a 36-year-old resident of Rancho Cucamonga
INVOLVED PERSON 2: Dennis Smith, a 24-year-old resident of Hemet
SUMMARY: On Friday, October 13, 2023, at about 8:15 a.m., Fontana Station deputies responded to a reported vehicle burglary in progress in the 18600 block of Valley Boulevard, unincorporated Bloomington.
The reporting party, Alexander Marquez, reported Dennis Smith was breaking into a vehicle.
A short time later, Marquez shot Smith. Deputies arrived and located Marquez armed with a firearm. Marquez fled inside the business and was safely detained a short time later. Deputies found Smith suffering from a gunshot wound to his lower body and immediately rendered medical attention. Smith was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he remains hospitalized. Deputies served a search warrant at the incident location and seized evidence related to this incident. Marquez was released pending further investigation.
