On Friday, June 9, 2023, at 11:01 PM, Azusa PD officers received a shots fired call for service near the 200 block of Newburgh Avenue, in the city of Azusa.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered three victims down near an apartment complex, with apparent gunshot wounds to their upper torso. LA Co. Fire Department personnel responded and pronounced one of the three victims (male Hispanic 20yr old) dead at the scene. The two other victims (male Hispanics 15 yr old and 18 yr old) were transported to a local hospital for further medical treatment to their injuries.

Sheriff’s Homicide investigators responded and learned the victims were congregating near the front of an apartment complex when several suspects walked up and fired multiple rounds into the group, striking all three victims.

The suspects were last seen fleeing the scene on foot and out of view. This incident is believed to be gang related. 

The investigation is ongoing and there is no additional information at this time.

NARRATIVE:  

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide detectives are responding to assist Azusa Police Department with a shooting investigation. The incident occurred on Friday June 9^th, 2023, at 11:01 PM.

One victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. Two other victims were transported to a local hospital.
