Attend the Opening Day Parade; Celebrate Coach Diddle; Join the National Library Week celebration

Join the Opening Day Parade! 

Residents are invited to join the City of Hoboken's baseball and softball Opening Day Parade this Saturday, April 22.  

The parade will commence at the Hoboken Elks Club at 10th and Washington Streets at 10 a.m. Little Leage baseball and RBI softball players will march down Washington Street turning left on Fifth Street ending at Sergeant William Fesken Memorial Field at Stevens Park. Players can line up between 10th Street and 11th Street on Washington Street starting at 9:30 a.m. 

Celebrate beloved Coach Diddle

The Hoboken community is invited to dedication ceremony on Saturday, May 6, renaming the Hoboken Hockey Rink at Second and Adams Streets in honor of Johnny Ray “Diddle” McDonald Jr. who passed away in 2021 at the age of 58. Coach Diddle worked for the City of Hoboken’s Recreation Division for nearly 20 years and founded the City’s first children’s instructional hockey program. 

The day of remembrance will include free youth skate at 11 a.m., free adult skate at 12 p.m., a brief dedication ceremony at 1 p.m., and a friendly adult pick-up game at 2 p.m.

Join the Library Celebration 

The Hoboken Public Library wants you to join the celebration of all things library, and take part in National Library Week, April 23-29, to explore all it has to offer.

The library is a community hub, providing education, entertainment, crafting classes, lectures, story times for children, and social services for all. It offers everything from picture books and large print titles, to audiobooks, eBooks, and streaming services. The library’s branches are welcoming spaces open to everyone, bringing the community together.

Next week, the library is offering a wide array of events and classes for every age and interest. It all kicks off Sunday, April 23, with a Family FUNday Puppet Show, and continues with Banned Books Trivia for Teens & Tweens on Monday, After School Story Time in Church Square Park on Tuesday, Welcome Back Book Bike Party! on Wednesday, a Senior Dance Party on Friday, and all kinds of exciting and entertaining events in between. Click here to get the full line-up.
