LOCATION: Westbound on 10 Freeway Between Atlantic Blvd. and Eastern Ave., Los Angeles
SUSPECT: Male Adult
UNIT: Homicide Bureau – Lieutenant Modica
NARRATIVE:
On Friday, March 31, 2023 at approximately 10:10 a.m., Monterey Park Police Officers observed a vehicle wanted for a robbery reported by Los Angeles Police Department. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop of the vehicle while traveling northbound on Atlantic Boulevard approaching the 10 freeway. The vehicle failed to yield and a short vehicle pursuit ensued westbound on the 10 freeway from Atlantic Boulevard. The suspect vehicle became disabled on the shoulder of the number one lane, near the center divider.
The suspect exited the vehicle and ran south across the eastbound lanes on the 10 freeway. Officers followed the suspect on foot. The suspect produced a firearm and an officer involved shooting occurred.
The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. A firearm was located on scene.
All officers have been accounted for, one officer sustained minor injuries during the foot pursuit.
Eastbound and Westbound lanes of the 10 freeway will remain closed until further notice pending the recovery of evidence.
