Overnight Storms are a reminder of the importance to sign up for alerts.

Severe storms that moved through the Wabash Valley Wednesday evening serve as a reminder of the importance for citizens to sign for Nixle alerts.  Vigo County Chief Deputy John Moats and Vigo County 911 Director Rob McMullen remind citizens of the importance to sign up for Nixle alerts.  Vigo County utilizes Nixle as it means to notify its citizens of important information including weather alerts. Citizens may sign up for all alerts from Vigo County 911 and the Sheriff’s Office by signing up on the Nixle website (nixle.com) this method allows for citizens to have more options of receiving alerts or may simply text their zip code to 888-777.  For those who wish only to receive weather alerts they may text VIGOWEATHER to 888-777.  Chief Moats encourages citizens to sign up for all alerts as many times other emergencies beside weather need to be communicated to our citizens and many times we need our citizens to assist our office.
