We just learned that portions of I-40 East Bound are now closed from Tucumcari east to the TX line. And the center of the storm is just now beginning to enter far southwest NM.

• Today: The main low pressure system was spinning over the Douglas, Arizona region at mid-morning. The low will begin to slowly lift toward the northeast this afternoon, passing just south of ABQ between 3-5pm. This track will continue to favor the development of heavy bands of snow across central, north-central, and much of the northeast quarter of NM as we go through the afternoon.

• ABQ-SAF Metro: In the ABQ Metro, gusty east canyon winds will remain strong through at least midday, but they will quickly diminish as the low pressure system passes over Central NM. Once the east winds diminish, the potential for accumulating snowfall in the ABQ area will increase significantly. We expect anywhere from a dusting to perhaps 3-4 inches in the ABQ metro area by the evening rush hour. Temperatures will hover in the mid/upper 30s, so the impact on roads in the immediate ABQ metro will not be significant except for areas close to the foothills and across the West Mesa. In the SAF area, we expect 3-5 inch totals.

• Tonight: The low pressure area drifts into northeast/east-central NM during the evening, and essentially wobbles around the far eastern part of the state through daybreak Friday. The focus for additional significant snowfall will be along the east slopes of the Sandia and Sangre de Cristo Mountains as well as the northeast quarter north of I-40. We think the impact to I-40 due to heavy snow will be lessening early tonight.

• Friday: Improving west. Scattered snow showers lingering east.
