Charges filed in gang related homicide
January 25, 2010 (MINNEAPOLIS) Criminal charges have been filed in the January 17th shooting death of sixteen year old Marvin Ray Maynard III that occurred in the 2600 block of James Ave N. Ryan Daniel Jones-Adams (DOB 8/5/93) has been charged with:
· MURDER IN THE FIRST DEGREE COMMITTED IN ASSOCIATION WITH A CRIMINAL GANG (felony)
· MURDER IN THE FIRST DEGREEE (felony)
According to the complaint, Maynard and his friends were confronted by the defendant and two of his friends who were shouting opposing Crip gang affiliation remarks. Maynard’s friend responded back that they were with a conflicting Tre-Tre gang affiliation. The defendant became angry at the opposing remarks, pulled out a gun, and stated, “I’ll up on your ass”. Defendant then ran towards the victim, raised the gun and fired two shots at the victim. Victim was hit multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene.
During the course of the investigation, a handgun was found near the scene that contained a thumb print from the defendant. In addition, video surveillance taken from a nearby store shows the defendant wearing the same clothing as described by one of Maynard’s friends. With this information, along with numerous witness interviews, homicide detectives Klund and Fors were able to identify the defendant and bring forth these charges.
Jones-Adams is in custody at the Hennepin County Adult Detention Facility. Bail has been set at $2,000,000. A booking photo is not available.
