The NLRPD encourages internet users to use caution when donating money online for the Haiti Earthquake Relief fund. 
The NLRPD and the FBI is encouraging internet users who receive appeals to donate money online in the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti to use caution. To avoid any chance of fraud please apply a critical eye to all email or online requests before responding. Before making a donation of ANY kind, people should adhere to guidelines including:
*Do not respond to any unsolicited incoming emails, including clicking on links contained within those messages,
*Be skeptical of individuals representing themselves as surviving victims or officials asking for donations viea email or other social networking sites,
*Verify the legitimacy fo nonprofit organizations by utilizing various internet based resources,
*Be cautious of emails that claim to show pictures of the disaster areas in attached files due to the files possibly containing viruses,
*Do not give personal information to anyone who solicits contributions to prevent possible identify theft
