Northfield Twp Police handled 319 calls for service this month

03/01/2020 *Home Invasion
6400 Block of Whitmore Lake- A homeowner reported that sometime, between Feb 28, 0830 am and Feb 29, 10 pm, an unknown subject kicked in the basement door, gaining entry and stole specific items. Through the investigation all property was recovered, and the case was closed.

03/02/2020 *Arrest –Fugitive Warrant –Fail to Appear on Aggravated Assault Charges
Northfield Police Department – While at the police station for an unrelated incident, officers recognized the complainant as a wanted subject. The subject was arrested and turned over to the department holding the warrant.

03/02/2020 *Fraud
9500 Main St – A complainant reported that after a friend deposited money into her account at the ATM, and the friend returned home; the complainant noticed that a withdrawal occurred. A subject was observed in the area, before the transaction was completed. The case remains under investigation.

03/04/2020 *Malicious Destruction of Property
5300 Block of Earhart –A complainant reported that sometime between Tuesday March 3, 9pm &Wednesday March 4,9 am, damage was done to the complainant’s rural mailboxes. Evidence was collected at the scene, but no witnesses were available. It appears that a 2014-17 Dodge Durango may have been involved. If anyone has any information regarding this incident, please contact the Northfield Twp Police.

03/07/2020 *Larceny from Auto
9200 block of Main St – A Complainant reported that sometime between 8pm on March 6 and 7am on March 7, property was removed from her unlocked vehicle. Taken was bag containing the complainant’s laptop. The complainant recalls hearing voices and a car door closing around 11:15 pm on March 6. If anyone has any information regarding this incident they are asked to contact the Northfield Twp Police.

03/08/2020 *Breaking and Entering a Shed
7800 Block of Coyle – A homeowner reported that sometime between January and March 6 someone jimmied the lock on his shed and removed several power tools including chain saws and a generator. No evidence or witnesses were identified at the time of the report.

03/07/2020 * Larceny(Theft)
8600 Block of Main St – A complaint was filed stating that after a stay at a local rehab center, the complainant discovered that some of his nonprescription pills were missing. The complainant also stated that a piece of medical equipment was expected at the center, but the complainant never received it and believes it was used by the facility. The case remains under investigation.

03/12/2020 *Arrest- Fugitive Warrant – Probation Violation
9400 Block of Main Street – Officers responded to check on an individual who was wanted on a warrant. Officers located the subject, placed him under arrest and transferred him to the agency holding the warrant.

03/13/2020 *Arrest – Operating While Intoxicated 2nd Offense– Leaving the Scene of an Accident
Whitmore Lake & North Territorial – Officers responded to a hit and run with a witness following the fleeing vehicle. Officers located the vehicle and suspect and could smell an odor of intoxicants coming from the suspect. After a series of preliminary tasks, the suspect was arrested, transported to U of M for medical clearance and then transported to Washtenaw County jail. The suspects’ vehicle was impounded.

03/16/2020 *Hit & Run Parked Vehicle
50 Block of Barker- While a patron was in the store, an unknown vehicle struck his vehicle and left the scene. No vehicle description, no witnesses and no evidence was available at the time or the report.

03/21/2020 *Hit & Run – Parked Vehicle
50 Block of Barker – A complainant reported that while their car was parked in the parking lot, another vehicle struck it. The complainant believes the incident occurred approximately 8:40pm when others told the complainant that they heard a loud noise, but could not determine the source. An officer observed fresh damage to the front left fender that consisted of a dent and white paint transfer. Through the initial investigation a suspect has been developed and the case remains under investigation.

03/23/2020 *Uttering & Publishing (Writing a fraudulent check)
9500 Block of Main St – A report was filed with NTPD regarding a fraudulent check that was cashed at a local business. The investigating officer worked to develop a possible suspect, however, it did not match the description of the individual who cashed the check.

03/28/2020 *Breaking &Entering - Unoccupied Building
6400 Block of Whitmore Lake – Officers responded to investigate an open door. The investigation revealed that a pedestrian door of an unoccupied residence had been damaged. In addition the door of an out building was also damaged. Construction workers who had been at the site on 03/20/2020, stated there was no damage at the time of their departure. Officers cleared both buildings and at the time of the report no property appeared to be missing. The case remains under investigation.

03/30/2020 *Fraudulent Access to Computer System – (Account Hacking)
3900 Block of Northfield Church – A complainant reported that someone accessed his internet account and changed his password. The account is the complainants’ sole means of communication –for his phone and internet. The “hacker” has created interruptions and disconnections to the use of his account. The case remains investigation.

03/31/2020 *Suspicious Situation –
Glenmore - Officers responded to a complaint that an unknown subject described as a W/M/ heavy set, with a dark beard & mustache, and wearing dark clothes began following and videotaping children as they walked down the street. A parent had words with the subject who is believed to live in the area, but officers were not able to locate him on this date.

From the Federal Trade Commission -fake CDC & World Health Organization emails are out there
· Do not click on links from unexpected emails.
· Home Covid-19 tests available are not FDA approved
· Cures are not being sold to the public
· Scammers are using social media, text messages, emails and
phone calls do not respond or open these messages

The Federal Government and promised relief checks –
· You do not need to do anything if you filed taxes in 2018 or 2019.
· Social Security recipients not required to file taxes are in the system
· Do Not give anyone your personal information- there is no “sign-up” for your check
o Do not respond to emails, voicemails or telephone requests asking for your information
· The checks will be directly deposited – if you need to communicate with the IRS use website: (https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus)
· No one has access to receive checks early – do not fall prey to those representing an agency able to speed up getting your check

· Lies appear compelling, “your loved one is in the hospital needing money for treatment”
· Verify the caller’s identity and resist to act immediately
