Two suspects arrested after north campus burglary

On April 4th at about 6 am, officers responded to the Campus Store (1804 Euclid Avenue) for a possible in-progress burglary.  According to a witness, the witness heard the sound of glass breaking along with the sound of voices coming from the store.

When officers arrived, they spotted a suspect standing in front of the business and attempted to detain him.  The suspect ran from officers, but was captured on the 2400 block of Le Conte Avenue after a foot chase.

As other officers surrounded the building to search for additional suspects, an officer spotted a second suspect exiting the building through a rear roll-up door carrying a bag.  When officers attempted to detain that suspect, he also ran from officers.  The second suspect ran onto UC Berkeley campus and was captured soon after—hiding under a vehicle by Haviland Hall.  When officers searched the second suspect, they found a bag of cocaine in his pockets as well as a nearby bag of stolen cash, cigarettes and drinks.

The first suspect (Jeremy Joseph, Male, 21 years old, Berkeley, CA) was arrested on suspicion of burglary and resisting arrest.  The second suspect (Akhil Perimbeti, Male, 21 years old, Berkeley, CA) was arrested on suspicion of burglary, resisting arrest and possession of narcotics.

The Berkeley Police Department takes great pride in keeping our community safe.  We appreciate the public’s support and are pleased that we were able to bring justice to those who wish to do harm to our community.
