Below is an update from Mayor Ravi Bhalla on COVID-19:

We’ve not only had a tremendous outpouring of donations of personal protective equipment from all across Hoboken from residents and businesses, but also through organizations from outside our mile square as well. I’m so appreciative to the “HongKongers4US” advocacy group for donating 10,000 surgical masks for Hoboken University Medical Center and 2,000 for our Hoboken first responders. Thank you to local businesses Jill Biggs Group for helping us connect with the organization and transporting it to Hoboken.
 
13 new cases in Hoboken
 
The Hoboken Health Department today reported 13 new COVID-19 cases in Hoboken. Overall, there are 129 confirmed cases in Hoboken. The Hoboken Health Department has been contacting all those in close contact with those individuals to self-quarantine. As a reminder, if you are currently under self-quarantine due to COVID-19 or suspected COVID-19, our CERT team can help arrange the delivery of groceries to your apartment. Expansion of COVID-19 testing in Hoboken
 
I’m pleased to share that we will now be able to acquire enough COVID-19 testing kits to open up the existing Riverside Medical Center testing center to all Hoboken residents eligible for testing. While testing centers are open in Hudson County and across the State, with the expected surge in cases, it’s important for Hoboken residents with COVID-19 symptoms to have more convenient access to testing right here in Hoboken. We’ll be sharing additional information on this breaking development soon.
 
Today is Census Day – please fill out your census!
 
As I’ve mentioned before, it’s never been more important to fill out the 2020 Census (and because today is Census Day). Hoboken will be asking for its fair share of funding from the state and federal government to help with the COVID-19 crisis, and the population determined by the census will have a major impact in determining what we receive. Less than 40% of residents have filled out the census to date. Please take five minutes and fill out the online questionnaire at http://www.2020census.gov.
 
Self-isolating continues to remain a policy in Hoboken
 
With the weather getting nicer, I continue to urge all residents to remain indoors as much as possible. I know that for many of us, our first impulse is to head outdoors during warm weather. I can assure everyone that the nice weather will still be there on the other side of COVID-19. Additionally, one concerning aspect of COVID-19 is people that have the virus may not be showing symptoms for the first several days. You, or someone you may interact with on the street may not look sick, but the virus can be transmitted without anyone knowing it. Sacrificing our outdoor time now will help us save lives in the long run.
 
Hoboken bank information
 
We previously shared information on revised hours at local banks, however the various banks in town have since changed their hours of operation again. For the most up to date banking hours, I encourage residents to call their bank ahead of time to make an appointment.
 
Comprehensive COVID-19 information from the Hoboken Library
 
The staff at the Hoboken Library has put together the most up to date and comprehensive information for small businesses, employees, job seekers, payments on credit cards, student loans and auto loans, and more. For small businesses, this includes various state and federal grant and loan programs available due to COVID-19. This all-in-one resource can be found at  https://hobokenlibrary.org/job-resources. NJ Transit Records Building
 
I’m happy to report that the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and New Jersey Transit (NJT) have jointly agreed to extend the deadline for public comment on the future of the historic NJ Transit Records building. NJ Transit has agreed to reschedule the originally scheduled public meeting from March to a virtual online meeting, tentatively scheduled for the evening of April 16, with additional details to be provided soon. I extend my sincere thanks to Executive Director Kevin Corbitt and Paul Wycoff from NJT, and Donald Burns from the FTA for working with my staff on this extension.
