Just before 2:00 PM on March 29, deputies arrested a man after he ran away from them.
A deputy was responding to a call in the 3300 block of Santa Rosa Avenue at approximately 1:50 PM. While helping with that call, the deputy noticed a man crouching in an open door of a car and that the steering column was hanging down. By checking the car’s registration the deputy learned the car was reported stolen.
The deputy got out of his patrol car and asked the man to come towards him. The man, later identified as Jason Guinn, 43, transient, complied and walked over. When the deputy asked Guinn to get on the ground, Guinn starting questioning the deputy and began looking for a way to escape. Because Guinn was not complying and indicating he was looking to escape, the deputy drew his service weapon and ordered him to the ground. Guinn turned and ran away through a building breezeway.
The deputy chased him in his patrol car and, with the help of passersby who showed him the direction that Guinn was running, saw him jump a fence and run through a trailer park. Deputies established a perimeter and called Henry 1 to help find Guinn. Shortly afterwards, deputies detained him at gunpoint and arrested him without incident.
After arresting Guinn, deputies saw the car’s ignition was damaged and there were a few tools inside it. Deputies called the car’s owner and returned it to her.
Guinn was arrested for misdemeanor resisting arrest, felony possession of a stolen vehicle, and violation of PRCS, which is a type of probation. He is in custody at the jail without bail because of the PRCS violation. We’d like to thank the community members who helped us during the chase.
