Newark Police Step Up Enforcement of Mayor Baraka’s Executive Order to Stop the Spread of COVID-19

Newark Police Officers are stepping up the enforcement of Mayor Ras Baraka’s Executive Order to stop the spread of COVID-19 by issuing summonses to individuals found in violation.

The mayor strongly advised people to stay at home and to not come out unless it’s an emergency. Exceptions: to go to the supermarket/local store for essentials, pharmacy, doctor, walk the dog, step out for fresh air in front or back of home/doorstep/porch/terrace or if an essential employee.

Also, children need to be accompanied by an adult. While out, everyone needs to maintain the Center for Disease Control’s recommendation of keeping 6 feet apart.

“This is a matter of public safety and the community has an equal responsibility to make sure we all stay healthy and safe,” Director Ambrose said. “I urge residents to call the police at 973-733-6000 if they see groups of people hanging out and violating this mandate.”
