Advisory

COVID-19 Message from Supervisor Slater and Chief Noble. View Channel 20 (Opt) Channel 33 (FIOS) at 6pm Sunday Evening for information.

To all Yorktown residents and visitors,

Yorktown Town Supervisor Matt Slater will once again provide verified and accurate information regarding our local state of emergency (COVID-19) via the Town Government Cable Channel this evening at 6 p.m.  Optimum customers--Channel 20.  FiOS customers--Channel 33.

As your chief of police, I am taking this opportunity to thank ALL in our community who continue to practice safe social distancing, in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19.  A few reminders:

Respiratory illnesses can be spread via "contact" from expiratory droplets that we all spread when we speak.  If you are speaking to someone less that six feet away, you are in all likelihood sharing droplets with each other and not flattening this curve.  While many know this, some may not.  It's not just a cough or a sneeze needed to spread these droplets and infect one another.

Please discard "used" gloves properly.  We've been finding them in public places (parks, parking lots, etc.).  Also, when shopping with gloves, if you touch something, please strongly consider purchasing the item.  Once you touch any fixed object while wearing gloves, you are spreading germs that exist on the exterior of the gloves to every additional object you touch.  "You touch it, you bought it," should be the rule of thumb. If not purchasing the product touched, please bring the item to store personnel for either proper sanitizing or discarding.

Town parks are closed.  Group activities are prohibited.  A "group activtity," is considered any activity that involves more than one singular person within six feet of any other person.  Supervisor Slater will elaborate further this evening.

Thank you to all in our community for your continued support.  We are all in this TOGETHER.  Each individual's cooperation slows the spread of this unseen enemy.  The Town of Yorktown Police Department remains fully operational, 24 hours each day, 7 days per week and 365 days every year.  The level of commitment from members of the Yorktown Police Department has been exceptional and I expect that to continue.  The Town of Yorktown should be proud of all community first responders.  I know that I am.  Stay safe.  Wash your hands frequently.  Practice social distancing.  We're here if you need us.  962-4141 (non emergency) and 911 (emergency).  If calling, please inform our call taker or responding officer if you have a fever, cough, a respiratory illness or if you're simply not feeling well.  Continue to "help us, help you."
