Update from Old Tappan Mayor John M. Kramer

I hope that my update finds you in good health. As of Thursday evening, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Old Tappan had risen to 12. The increase is not alarming since test sites have become available and cases not previously identified, have now been confirmed.

While these are trying times, please remain calm, continue to follow the Safety Measures that we are being reminded of daily and we will recover sooner and return to better times. It is important to continue to stay home. If you need to go out, make sure you practice safe Social Distancing (6’ apart from one another) and wash hands frequently.

While the news media sensationalizes the issues, the doctors that I have spoken with have provided reasons for optimism. The number of cases being confirmed continue to increase, however not quite so exponentially as in recent weeks. This is a possible indication that the so-called curve may be leveling out. So, let’s stay the course. Don’t panic. Be confident. Obey the safety rules. Stay in communication with family, friends, neighbors, and those you think may be alone and need a boost.

Never before have we seen the unity that is being displayed today by our Federal Government, various state & federal health agencies, and yes even by our elected congressional officials to a great extent. Something which we have not seen in recent years. Our borough government has scaled back accordingly but continues to run like a well-oiled machine. Our police, fire, ambulance, and D.P.W. crews, all having made adjustments, continue to function and provide the necessary services.

I offer my personal thanks to all of our employees, our volunteers, our elected officials and to the community at large for the offers of help that they have made.

Be healthy, stay well. Keep your faith. Spring is here.

Mayor John M. Kramer
