COVID-19 Travel Update: Further Restrictions

Effective Friday, March 27 at 6 a.m., following precautionary recommendations regarding COVID-19 (Coronavirus) from the CDC and the Glynn County Board of Commissioners, the Jekyll Island Authority has issued a new Executive Order with the following restrictions:

 Section 1: Prohibition on Community Gatherings; Exceptions 

  • All public or private Community Gatherings of more than ten (10) people anywhere within the boundaries of Jekyll Island, Georgia are prohibited for the duration of this Order.

Section 2: Prohibition on Restaurant Dine-In Seating, Bars; Allowances for Take-Out, Delivery, and Curbside Service 

  • All restaurants and eating establishments shall close to the public except to provide take out, delivery, or curbside service. This prohibition includes outside seating areas.
  • All other business locations licensed by the Jekyll Island-State Park Authority for the sale of alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises, such as bars and similar establishments, shall be closed for business.

Section 3: Prohibition on Body Care Services 

  • All establishments providing body care services which require physical contact between the provider and client, including, without limitation, barbering, hair design, cosmetology, esthetics, massage therapy, or nail care shall be closed for business.

Section 4: Prohibition on Pools, Indoor Venues, Fitness Facilities; Exceptions 

  • All indoor or outdoor public and private pools regulated by the Department of Public Health are permitted to remain open so long as the owners of such pools comply with the following regulations: (i) The posted occupancy of such pools must be no more than ten (10) people, and as such, no more than then (10) people are allowed to utilize the pool at one time; (ii) all persons utilizing such pools must not be within six feet of each other; and (iii) the pool owner takes extraordinary measures to ensure all surfaces are sanitized. For clarity’s sake, these restrictions shall not apply to pools owned by individual homeowners, as they are not regulated by the Department of Public Health. 
  • All indoor recreation, fitness and/or entertainment facilities, including fitness classes (including those fitness classes held outdoors), spas, saunas, indoor amusement facilities, and music venues, shall be closed for business.

Section 5: Restrictions on all other establishments 

  • All other retail, commercial, or industrial establishments not specifically addressed above will be permitted to remain open subject to the following restrictions: (a) reasonable steps are taken to ensure that customers, employees, and other persons on the premises shall generally not be within six (6) feet of each other for longer than brief periods; and (b) employees are not suffered or permitted to work if they are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 or residing with anybody exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19.

Section 6: Authority owned property 

  • The playground located at 100 Great Dunes Lane; the Campground Pavilion; and the beach pavilions, including Great Dunes Beach Park deck are closed.
  • McCormick’s Bar and Grill is closed to the public for dine-in services. McCormick’s will continue to offer take-out service. 
  • All other JIA-owned or operated parks and recreation facilities, including sidewalks, bike paths, fishing piers, bicycle rentals, tennis courts, golf courses, mini-golf, designated pedestrian areas, boat ramps, and campground facilities, other than the Campground Pavilion, shall remain open to the public for walking, exercise, and other recreational uses, with provisions.
  • JIA is taking extraordinary measures to ensure all surfaces are sanitized and that individuals are not part of an organized gathering or event of more than ten (10) people and that such individuals take reasonable steps to ensure that, to the greatest possible, there is generally at least six feet of distance them and other individuals. 
  • Previously announced closures remain in place.

This Executive Order, signed by the Executive Director of the Jekyll Island Authority, will remain in place until April 13, 2020 or until the Executive Order is terminated or extended. 
 
The JIA will continue to monitor developments and information surrounding COVID-19’s potential impact on travel to and around Jekyll Island.
